Volumiphonium 32.2

SpatGRIS view

The Volumiphonium is one of the most advanced devices in the field of 3D multichannel research.

Historically, composers began by using octophony to present their multichannel works.

Then, as the hardware evolved—quite rapidly—they moved on to 16-channel systems, first in 2D, then in 3D.

The periphonic systems (domes and cubes) that emerged later offered composers the ability to use a much higher number of channels (generally at least 32).

In current volumetric research, its name accurately describes the concepts of multilayers, multizones, and multivolumes.

This 3D diffusion, in order to be volumetric, requires – in addition to periphonic – the use of endophonic and sometimes exophonic, even allocentric zones/spaces.
