Located in Burgundy in a former medieval castle, and directed since its founding in 1993 by composer Jean VOGUET, CRANE lab is an independent center that conducts research on volumiphony and devotes its activities to heterotopia, acousmatic music, action art & the ethics of art.
Its 3D device 32.2 welcomes composers in residence to create volumiphonic works : acousmatic music compositions diffused in 3D and using multilayer, multizone, and multivolume in a space that is at once periphonic (all around), endophonic (inside), but also, sometimes exophonic (outside) or allocentric (off-center).
Since 2016, at the beginning of July each year, the « Rencontres Acousmatiques » have been held, bringing together composers, sound engineers, teachers and other interested parties around a theme (with round tables and diffusions of works).
The CRANE lab has a Acousmathèque volumiphonique 1 open to the public. Its collection currently includes more than 75 multichannel works by composers from around the world.
Two other members complete the CRANE lab team : photographer Bernard FRANÇOIS 2 and composer Yuko KATORI.
